There are over 110 million single adults in America today, according to the National Center for Health Statistics. So why is it so hard to find each other?
“It’s not just about matching up on-line, or even dating,” says Susan Feinstein in a phone interview on April 17, 2009, creator of Perfect Pairings for Conscious Singles, a unique new service that offers singles coaching, social events and professional matchmaking services in and around Salem, Portland, Eugene and Corvallis, with a focus on middle-age singles.
“What’s crucial is to provide the added support that people need to succeed in the dating world,” she explains, noting that most on-line match up or dating and event services don’t provide this kind of support.
“As singles, we need to take responsibility to become ‘conscious’ – to know who we are, what we want, and becoming clear about our life purpose, requirements and needs,” she says. “Coaching can really help people get there, and that means more successful dating.”
Dating: A Lost Art
“Many newly single people have no idea how to approach the dating scene,” especially if they find themselves suddenly single due to a divorce or loss of a long-term relationship, she says.
“You have to practice,” she says. “There are so many people who have no idea how to playfully flirt, or even how to talk to people they might like to connect with. So many singles have just given up because they are tired of trying to find ‘the one.’”
Coaching: A Key to Dating Success
Coaching is Feinstein’s primary focus, and it’s important “because it helps people clarify. Until you know who you are, and what you absolutely must have in a relationship, chances are you’ll settle for less than you deserve.”
She’s certified as a Licensed Relationship Coach and Singles Relationship Coach through the Relationship Coaching Institute, the oldest and largest service of its kind.
Tele-coaching and workshops such as Flirting 101 will also be offered.
Conscious Social Events are Key
“Online dating can be really confusing for many singles, and one obvious solution is social events that let people connect in an informal, no-pressure way,” says Feinstein.
“Most of us are Boomers, and we’ve worked very hard in our lives,” she says. “Now, we’re ready to have fun, develop friendships, and not feel like we need to rush into anything. Informal events are perfect for this.” And, she adds “if something develops from a place of real friendship, then that’s icing on the cake!”
The Oregon dating service will focus on events that partner with green, charitable and sustainable businesses, such as local wineries and more.

For those who want more extensive assistance, Perfect Parings will offer professional matchmaking services.
