The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, Inc. (NASCAR) celebrates its 60th year of operation 2008. According to their website (NASCAR.com), NASCAR holds 17 of the top 20 highest attended sporting events in the United Stated, making it one of the most popular spectator sports around.
For single fans of NASCAR, Steve Agins just might have the perfect solution to find love. Agins is the founder of Meet Me at the Races, a new website that connects race fans looking to find like-minded enthusiasts. Meet Me at the Races provides a full season race schedule and has also teamed up with Hotels.com to offer stays in every major NASCAR race city.
Members indicate which races they may be interested in attending, and in turn search for others who plan to go to as well. In addition, singles can find people who may live near the track or who share any other social, sports, and cultural interests. In an interview with Agins, he talked about Meet Me at the Races and how it can help singles connect.
I was a racecar driver (sport scars, not NASCAR) during a 20-year period when I was single. I could not find single women to date at races or events in which I was competing. That was a long time ago. I realized there must be thousands of race fans in the same situation: unable to connect with like-minded individuals to date.
Meet Me at the Races went live on Valentine’s Day (2008) and we’ve had enthusiastic emails from both men and women who have joined. There are new members joining daily.
Members are geographically diverse from California to New England to the deep south and southwest. Members tend to break the stereotype of racecar fans and run the gamut professionally.
Meet Me at the Races is completely free. Members joining during the current membership drive will have free unlimited use of the site indefinitely.
Members of Meet Me at the Races live well-rounded lives and engage in cultural, outdoors and sports activities. You may find the members to be good company sharing many other interests with you even if NASCAR racing isn’t your cup of tea. Members have indicated a variety of preferences on their applications including: arts and museums, camping, cooking, nightclubbing, dancing, film, baseball, politics, skiing, crafts, and performing arts in addition to motor sports activities.
This interview was conducted via email on March 28, 2008.
